A few fun facts to ponder over…
1. Common nettle is a rich source of iron, vitamin A and C, and few minerals. It can be consumed in the form of soups, salads or as an ingredient of various salty dishes. Nettle soup is "earthy, slightly tangy, outrageously healthy," according to Good Food magazine blogger Toby Travis.
2. Nettles were one of the main ingredients in English beer until the 1800's. Nettle beer, wine, champagne and cordial are all still commercially available.
3. Nettles have evolved stings to prevent them being eaten by animals.
4. In French, the idiom "faut pas pousser mémé dans les orties" (don't push grandma in the nettles) means that we should be careful not to abuse a situation!
